Trump Reiterates Plan to ‘Acquire’ Greenland, NATO Allies Raise Eyebrows

US President Donald Trump stirred up buzz this weekend by saying the US isn't just looking to lease Greenland – it wants to acquire it outright. 🚀

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said he's “talking about acquiring, not leasing, not having it short term, we’re talking about acquiring” the vast Arctic territory from Denmark. He argued that maintaining military bases isn’t enough to secure the island’s strategic value.

He added, “One way or the other, we’re going to have Greenland,” claiming national security concerns – even warning that “if we don’t do it, Russia or China will.” But are there really foreign warships lurking nearby?

Nordic diplomats say no. Two senior diplomats with access to NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) intelligence recently told the Financial Times there’s no evidence of Russian or Chinese ships or submarines operating around Greenland in recent years. Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide also told broadcaster NRK there’s “very little” activity in the area.

Trump also took aim at NATO allies, questioning whether they’d have America’s back when it counts. He insisted he “saved NATO” and claimed Europe “needs us much more than we need them.”

Whether you’re into geopolitics, defence tech, or just Arctic vibes, this saga raises big questions: Can you really buy a massive island? And what’s the strategic game behind these bold moves? 🧐

Stay tuned as this story unfolds – it’s a real-life strategy game with global stakes, from Washington DC to Nuuk! ❄️
