🚨 Tensions in the Middle East just hit a new high. The United States, under President Donald Trump, is now keeping "all options on the table" for Iran, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Thursday.
Leavitt warned of "grave consequences" if the ongoing protests against the rial's sharp depreciation continue to turn violent. Demonstrations that began in late December over economic hardships have escalated, leading to clashes, casualties, and damage to public buildings.
On the ground, the U.S. military is reportedly evacuating personnel from bases in the region while sending reinforcements to nearby locations. At the same time, the Treasury Department slapped new sanctions on 13 entities and 11 individuals linked to Iran's security forces and energy sector.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres this week, calling on the UN to condemn "all forms of foreign interference" in Iran's internal affairs and to denounce any extremist acts disguised as protests.
Authorities in Iran also announced the arrest of six alleged ringleaders in Kerman Province accused of photographing military sites and attempting to share coordinates with overseas agents linked to Israel's Mossad. Security forces seized weapons, tear gas, and bomb-making materials during the operation.
With both sides ramping up pressure—through military warnings, economic sanctions, and diplomatic letters—many eyes are now on the UN and how global members will respond to this escalating standoff. Stay tuned for more updates! 👀
