Shu Bingqing’s The Shyness of Trees Earns Oscar Shortlist!

Heads up, film and animation fans! 🎬✨ The Shyness of Trees, an animated short co-directed by a talented seven-student team from Gobelins (France’s top animation school), has just landed on the Oscar shortlist for Best Animated Short Film at the 98th Academy Awards. 🌳🏆

Created by emerging artists and having already wowed crowds at over 30 international animation festivals (and scooped a handful of awards along the way), this film blends stunning visuals with heartfelt storytelling. For creatives from Mumbai to Manila, it’s proof that student projects can go global! 🌏🔥

Among the core team is Shu Bingqing, one of four Chinese creators on the project. She recently spoke with CGTN reporter Yang Yan about the journey from brainstorming sketches in Paris to making waves on the awards circuit, emphasising the power of teamwork across cultures.

Now, The Shyness of Trees is competing for one of just five final nomination spots. Stay tuned later this year to see if it blossoms into a full-fledged Oscar nominee! 🍀🎉
