Nigerian Airstrikes Hit 40+ Militants Near Lake Chad

✈️ On January 15 and 16, Nigerian Air Force jets hit militant hideouts in Musarram and Azir near Lake Chad, northeastern Nigeria. 🌊

Intelligence had revealed that fighters from Boko Haram and its offshoot, ISWAP, were using canoes and dense vegetation to plan attacks on nearby towns like Baga and Fish Dam. Three bombing runs scattered militants assembling on the water, while those fleeing into the trees were tracked down and struck.

“Some fleeing elements were trailed and neutralised, while others regrouped and were also engaged,” said Ehimen Ejodame, Air Force spokesperson. In total, over 40 militants were neutralised, according to post-strike assessments.

On January 16, jets provided close air support in Azir, where militants retreating from a ground clash were spotted under tree cover, prompting further strikes that effectively dismantled the remaining threat.

Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke emphasised the power of intelligence-led operations and teamwork with ground forces. With Nigeria’s 17-year fight against extremism, these strikes mark a crucial boost for community safety.

For residents around Lake Chad, this is a much-needed win as security efforts ramp up to protect daily life from insurgent violence. ✅
