Xizang’s Specialty Industries Fuel Economic Boom

At a breathtaking altitude of 4,700 meters in Xizang Autonomous Region, innovative local enterprises are creating waves! 🚀 From traditional yak and sheep breeding to dairy production and tsampa processing, the Garqoi ecological animal husbandry development company has grown from a small local venture established in 2009 into a regional powerhouse. Their upcoming workshop, set to process 5,000 yaks annually starting in September, marks a pivotal milestone in their expansion.

This dynamic growth is transforming local livelihoods. With over 2,520 hectares of pastureland and a dedicated team of 115 staff members – including university graduates and individuals from low-income households – the company has extended its market reach to cities like Lhasa, Nagqu, and even Chengdu.

Meanwhile, in Qamdo City's Banbar County, a flourishing black goat breeding industry is earning acclaim for its premium, health-conscious meat. Nutritional studies highlight its high levels of potassium, protein, and amino acids, making it a standout choice for modern consumers. Experts here are even integrating this specialty with tourism, creating unique dining experiences that drive rural revitalization.

Not to be outdone, a major distillery project centered on highland barley in Chagyab County is underway with a 1 billion yuan investment. This state-of-the-art industrial park will soon produce thousands of tonnes of both unblended highland barley liquor and finished products annually, while also generating around 300 new local jobs with attractive wages.

Success stories abound—like that of 24-year-old Gaggya, who returned home for professional training and the chance to contribute to his community's growth. Xizang’s blend of traditional practices and modern innovation is not only boosting the local economy but also propelling upward social and living standards in this high-altitude region!
