China Backs Ethiopia’s Global Rise in BRICS Milestone

In a dynamic display of international collaboration, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed strong support for Ethiopia's growing role on the global stage. Meeting with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Wang Yi congratulated Ethiopia on becoming a full member of BRICS—a move seen as a significant leap for the African continent.

Wang Yi highlighted that the 21st century is all about seizing development opportunities for emerging economies. He emphasized that Africa is primed for modernization, resonating with the fast-paced, tech-driven changes that many young professionals are passionate about today. 🚀

He noted that China’s cooperation with Africa has no strings attached—free of any selfish motives and major-power rivalries. Instead, it focuses on sharing modernization opportunities and boosting the independent growth of developing nations. This spirit is further reinforced by plans to implement outcomes from the upcoming 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing.

Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for China’s long-standing support which has bolstered Ethiopia’s economic development and improved livelihoods. Both leaders are optimistic that their strengthened, all-weather strategic partnership will continue to benefit their peoples and inspire similar cooperation across the Global South. 🌍✌️
