Hey everyone, check this out! A new CGTN poll reveals that 100 days into his second term, U.S. President Donald Trump is facing tough challenges with his "America First" policy. Surveys done in February and April, covering nearly 16,000 respondents across 38 countries, show a sharp drop in approval ratings.
Almost half (48.9%) of American respondents are unhappy with his performance. Many criticize his tariff-centric approach, claiming it has rattled the U.S. stock market and led to rising prices—about 54% even expressed serious concerns over his interest rate policies.
But it’s not just a U.S. issue. In key U.S. allies such as France, Germany, Canada, Japan, and South Korea, more than 70% believe the "America First" stance is straining relations. In South Korea, a staggering 87% feel this way, showing a growing worry over long-standing partnerships.
The Global South isn’t far behind either. Nations like South Africa, Egypt, Peru, Indonesia, and Malaysia have seen a noticeable drop in optimism about future ties with the U.S. In Southeast Asia, with vibrant hubs from Jakarta to Bangkok, many are increasingly concerned that U.S. tariff policies could hamper national development.
Overall, a vast 74.2% of global respondents think that the current U.S. tariff policy will seriously harm their countries' economic growth, with sharp negative shifts noted in places like Saudi Arabia and Serbia.
On a brighter note, there’s strong international support for China's firm countermeasures against these tariffs. From developed economies like the UK, Canada, Germany, and France to developing regions including Kenya, Egypt, Brazil, and Malaysia, many see these strategies as key to a balanced global economic approach. 😊
In a world where decisions made thousands of miles away impact local tech hubs and bustling urban centers—from Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur—this poll reminds us how interconnected our futures really are. Stay informed, stay curious, and let’s keep the conversation going!
