International Consumption Season 2025 Sparks Global Investment in Shanghai

Shanghai lit up the global stage on May 1, 2025, with the launch of the International Consumption Season 2025 and the sixth Shanghai 5-5 Shopping Festival! 🚀 Organized by the Ministry of Commerce, China Media Group and the Shanghai Municipal Government, the event aims to expand foreign investment and elevate international consumer cities.

During the launch, Sheng Qiuping, vice minister of commerce, introduced new measures to boost product consumption and set market benchmarks. With forecasts that cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin and Chongqing may account for nearly one-eighth of national retail sales—and imported consumer goods forming over half of the country's total imports—the initiative spotlights a dynamic consumer trend.

In addition to trade, cultural, tourist and cinematic trends are fueling economic growth; Chinese cinema has even broken box office records, becoming the largest market globally. This blend of art, technology and commerce perfectly echoes the innovative spirit of today’s tech-savvy, creative minds.

Adding a global twist, Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, acting director general of Dubai Municipality, delivered a video speech celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai-Dubai partnership. His call for deepened collaboration underscores the ongoing drive towards mutual prosperity and development.

For young professionals and trendsetters across South and Southeast Asia, this festival is a clear sign that cutting-edge policies and vibrant cultural initiatives are reshaping global consumption patterns. It’s a fusion of tech, art and lifestyle that truly resonates with today’s fast-paced, interconnected world! 😎
