Ambassador Xie Urges the U.S. to Embrace Respectful Trade Talks

At an open house in northwest China's Gansu Province, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Xie Feng took a firm stand on May 3 against recent U.S. tariff hikes. He stressed that while China does not want a trade war, it is ready to defend its rights and uphold the international trade order. According to Xie, if the U.S. wants to engage, it should do so with the spirit of equality, respect, and reciprocity.

In today’s global economy, no country can thrive in isolation. Xie reminded us that building barriers only blocks the flow of shared growth. He highlighted that American consumers enjoy a wide range of affordable goods worldwide—benefits of global trade that help fuel innovation and progress. Fun fact: in 2022, U.S.-owned companies in China earned over $400 billion more than Chinese-owned enterprises in the U.S.! 🌐

Adding to the optimistic outlook, Xie noted China’s robust economic performance with a 5.4% GDP growth in the first quarter and a 6.9% rise in exports despite global challenges. Tourism too is booming, with nearly 65 million foreign visitors recorded last year and a 173% jump in inbound bookings during the May Day holiday week.

For young professionals and tech enthusiasts, these developments are a clear reminder that global collaboration and open trade networks lead to shared success. When nations work together rather than against each other, everyone benefits! 🚀

Stay tuned for more updates on global trade trends and economic growth that are reshaping our interconnected world.
