Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province in the Chinese mainland, recently witnessed a tech leap in food storage with the inflation of five state-of-the-art 9,000-tonne pneumatic granaries. Each silo, measuring 24 meters in diameter and 33 meters in height, can store enough grain to feed 23 million people for a whole day!
What makes these granaries so special? According to Wang Yue, head of the engineering design center at the Chengdu Grain Storage Research Institute under Sinograin, these silos offer six times the airtightness and three times the thermal insulation of traditional squatting silos. This superior design not only fends off rain and cold air but also keeps pests in check, ensuring your grains stay fresh and top quality. 😊
Adding to the innovation, a reinforced concrete layer supports an advanced polyurethane thermal insulation, and a sophisticated network of sensors provides real-time temperature monitoring. Jin Feng, head of the pneumatic silos project at China Coal No. 68 Engineering Co., Ltd., highlighted that these enhancements slash operational and maintenance costs by 30%, reduce the workforce from over 100 to just 18, and cut the construction period by 25% compared to older models.
With completion expected by the end of this year and operations starting in February next year, these pneumatic granaries mark a significant milestone, paving the way for smarter, more sustainable food storage solutions in the era of intelligent infrastructure. 🍚🚀
