Hey everyone, here’s a quick update on the latest COVID-19 news! China's National Health Commission (NHC) has come out strong on Monday, challenging parts of the WHO Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins of Novel Pathogens (SAGO) report that was released on June 27.
The NHC explained that the report doesn’t offer any new evidence on the origins of SARS-CoV-2, the virus behind the pandemic, and it doesn’t contradict the earlier Joint WHO-China Study from March 2021. According to the statement, the report includes "false information based on subjective speculation" and has raised unfounded requirements for China, allegedly influenced by certain countries and individuals.
The commission stressed that China has consistently shared all necessary data related to the virus’s origins. This openness is highlighted in their document, COVID-19 Prevention, Control and Origins Tracing: China's Actions and Stance, published on April 30.
As discussions about the pandemic’s origins continue globally, accurate and transparent data is more crucial than ever—especially for our tech-savvy and curious minds across South and Southeast Asia. Let’s keep the conversation informed and focused on science! 😊
