In a major boost for cross-border connectivity, over 2.85 million vehicles registered in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region have crossed northbound via the Zhuhai Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge as of Monday morning. 🚗🌉
The "northbound travel for Hong Kong vehicles" scheme was launched in July 2023 to make travel easier for work and leisure within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Since its inception, more than 108,000 vehicles and 129,000 drivers have completed the border inspection registration, marking a key step towards integrated regional development.
According to data from the bridge's border inspection station, over 3.27 million passenger vehicles have passed through since the beginning of the year, representing a year-on-year increase of around 30%. On weekends and holidays, the average daily traffic soars to about 21,000 vehicles—a huge leap from the previous average of around 7,000. Notably, Hong Kong's single-plated vehicles, registered exclusively in the Hong Kong SAR, now account for over 40% of total crossings.
This rapid rise, including daily trips reaching 18,000 in 2025, underscores the scheme's significant impact as it adapts to evolving mobility needs. It’s a prime example of how innovative transport solutions are shaping a fast-paced lifestyle and enhancing cross-border ties in the region.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to witness dynamic shifts in regional travel trends!
