China’s Deep-Sea Robotic Arm Makes Waves in Underwater Tech

China is making headlines with its new deep-sea robotic arm developed by Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC). Designed for deep-sea oil and gas operations, this innovative device recently completed its first test in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, proving its capabilities in tough underwater conditions. 🚀

Mounted on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), the arm can operate at depths of up to 7,000 meters. It boasts seven distinct functions—extending, retracting, swinging, rotating, opening, grasping, and clamping—allowing it to complete precise tasks such as valve operations and equipment installations even in strong currents.

What’s even more impressive? The arm weighs just 60 kilograms, which is 35% lighter than many of its global competitors, yet it can handle a payload of 125 kilograms at full extension. Its cost is also a game-changer, coming in at 40% lower than similar imported alternatives.

This breakthrough not only marks a significant milestone in underwater robotics but also positions China among the elite nations advancing deep-sea technology.
