At the 2025 World AI Conference (WAIC), the Chinese mainland showcased its AI prowess by releasing a staggering 1,509 large-scale AI models – the highest count worldwide! 🚀
With an industrial system that spans foundational infrastructure to sector-specific applications, the Chinese mainland is setting the pace for tech innovation. Data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) reveals over 5,100 AI companies on the mainland, representing around 15% of the global total. On top of that, 71 AI unicorns are fuelling breakthroughs in fields such as large models, autonomous driving, intelligent robots, business intelligence, and AI computing chips.
Yu Xiaohui of CAICT highlighted that rapid advancements in foundational models and emerging tech approaches could pave the way toward Artificial General Intelligence. With more than 300 AI-related listed companies contributing about 70% of the nation's AI revenue, the momentum is clear: the Chinese mainland is a powerhouse driving high-quality economic and social development.
