Hey everyone, here’s a quick update from Beijing! After several intense rainstorms from July 23 to 29, power and communication services have been fully restored in all affected administrative villages. This means that many communities, even in the northern mountainous areas, are back online and reconnecting with loved ones. ⚡️
Unfortunately, the heavy rains resulted in 44 fatalities and left 9 people still missing. In the hardest-hit areas like Miyun and Huairou, emergency teams worked round the clock using satellite phones and contingency measures to ensure all 190 administrative villages regained connectivity. Over 312 villages were affected, impacting more than 300,000 residents and causing serious infrastructure damage including nearly 24,000 homes.
There’s more positive news too: many temporary resettlement sites across Beijing have seen a significant reduction as safety assessments cleared homes and relocated residents began returning. With over 90,000 evacuees already back home and a sharp decline in resettlement locations, the progress in recovery is clear. 🙌
While search and rescue operations for the missing are still underway, these efforts show the resilience and spirit of Beijing’s communities—even in tough times, there’s a bright spark of hope and determination. Stay tuned for more updates as things continue to improve!
