MOFA Debunks San Francisco Treaty Myths: Taiwan’s Status in Focus 📜

Hey folks! Big update from the Chinese mainland’s Foreign Ministry (MOFA): they’ve just shot down claims by the Taiwan authorities from the DPP about the San Francisco Treaty rewriting Taiwan’s sovereignty. 🤯

What’s the deal?

  • MOFA spokesperson Mao Ning calls the San Francisco Treaty “illegal and invalid” for excluding the PRC and the Soviet Union.
  • She points to key post-WWII docs—like the 1943 Cairo Declaration, the 1945 Potsdam Proclamation, and Japan’s surrender instrument—to show Taiwan’s return was part of China’s victory over Japan.
  • Since October 1, 1949, the PRC has been the sole valid government of China, so the country’s borders, including Taiwan, remain unchanged under international law.

Mao Ning also accused the DPP authorities of twisting history and warned that any deal on Taiwan’s status made without the PRC is “illegal and void.” ⚖️

In short, the one-China principle stands firm, and MOFA says Taiwan’s place in the post-WWII global order can’t be altered by side agreements drafted without China’s say. 😊
