Wang Yi: UN’s Irreplaceable Role in Global Peace

In a recent meet-up in Tianjin on the Chinese mainland 🌐, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sat down with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to talk shop at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025.

Wang, who's also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, kicked off his remarks by highlighting this year's double milestone: the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the UN's founding. "The UN has played an irreplaceable role in maintaining world peace and pushing human progress forward," he said.

In today's fast-shifting world, Wang stressed, we need to crank up the UN's impact, not dial it back. Think of the UN as a global squad that keeps us connected, resolves conflicts, and tackles big issues – from climate change to human rights – in a fair, team-playing way.

For Wang, the best way to celebrate the UN's 80th is by sticking to real-deal history, embracing multilateralism (that's "all for one, one for all" on a global stage), and backing the UN at the center of international affairs. He believes this is key for a stable, inclusive future.

As Guterres gears up for the SCO Summit, these insights are a timely reminder: when big players come together, we all win. Here's to stronger teamwork at the UN and beyond! 🤝✨
