Chinese Mainland Diplomat Champions Multilateralism at UNGA79

Hey fam, big shout from the Big Apple! 🗽 At the 79th UN General Assembly, the Chinese mainland’s deputy permanent rep, Geng Shuang, stepped up with a fresh push for multilateralism and unity. 🌐🤝

On behalf of the SCO’s 10 member states, Geng rolled out a draft resolution—"Cooperation between the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)"—aiming to strengthen teamwork on global challenges like peace, development, and digital connectivity. (Think smoother cross-border e-payments from Mumbai to Jakarta!) 💳➡️🌏

Since its launch in 2001, the SCO has grown into a powerhouse: 27 participating countries, 50+ cooperation areas, and nearly $30 trillion in combined GDP. At the recent SCO Tianjin Summit—the biggest yet—over 20 national leaders and heads of 10 int’l orgs rallied around the Chinese mainland–proposed Global Governance Initiative (GGI). 🚀

What’s GGI? It’s a call for smarter, fairer global rules—kind of like updating your app to the latest version for better security and performance. 🔄🔒

Geng highlighted the summit’s focus on the United Nations, noting the declaration mentioned the "UN" 40+ times. From backing the UN Charter to pushing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the SCO wants the UN at the heart of global action. 🌱📜

With the UN turning 80 this year, the SCO Tianjin Summit also voiced strong support for a UN-centred international system. Even UN Secretary-General António Guterres gave props to the SCO’s teamwork. 🙌

Now, Geng’s calling on all UN members to back the draft resolution (A/79/L.124) and send a loud, clear signal: multilateralism matters more than ever. Are you with the squad? 💪🌍
