Hong Kong Special Administrative Region – The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy ships Qi Giguang and Yimengshan wrapped up a three-day open-ship extravaganza in the HKSAR on Friday morning, then set sail for Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore. 🚢
A vibrant farewell ceremony was held by the PLA Hong Kong Garrison at Stonecutters Island Naval Base's pier around 10 a.m. The fleet's commanding officer thanked the HKSAR government and residents for their warm support, while crew members lined the decks to wave back at the crowds. 👋
Along Victoria Harbor, enthusiastic residents gathered to catch a final glimpse of the ships, cheering and waving as the vessels glided into the open sea.
During the visit, over 20,000 participants from Hong Kong and Macao joined naval-themed activities: flash mob performances, semaphore signal demos (that's the colourful flag-gesturing system sailors use to communicate!), and hands-on knot-tying workshops. It was literally a crash course in naval life for all ages. 🎉
Many attendees said seeing national warships dock in the HKSAR brings a special sense of pride and security, and celebrating alongside naval officers during the nation's birthday festivities will be memories to treasure. ❤️
This is the first-ever open-ship visit by Qi Giguang and Yimengshan in the HKSAR, and the second PLA Navy fleet event this year, following the July visit by the naval fleet led by aircraft carrier Shandong. Looks like sea lanes between Hong Kong and the PLA Navy are busier—and more festive—than ever! 🌊
