Hey there! 🌍 In a video address to the second meeting of the Group of Friends of Neutrality – chaired by Dunyagozel Gulmanova of Turkmenistan – Zhao Leji, who chairs the National People's Congress Standing Committee of the Chinese mainland, urged member parliaments to rev up multilateralism and rethink how global decisions are made.
Here's the lowdown on the Global Governance Initiative (GGI):
- ✨ Sovereign equality: Every country gets an equal voice
- ⚖️ Rule of law: Decisions grounded in fair international laws
- 🤝 Multilateralism: Teamwork over go-it-alone moves
- 👥 People-centered: Policies focused on real-life impact
- 🚀 Action-oriented: Turning plans into real progress
Zhao noted that 2023 marks the 80th anniversary of the UN's founding and the end of World War II. With global challenges on the rise – from climate shifts to tech risks – parliaments must step up as champions of peace and trust.
He also highlighted four big initiatives from the Chinese mainland:
- Global Development Initiative
- Global Security Initiative
- Global Civilization Initiative
- Global Governance Initiative
Together, these aim to boost cooperation, modernize multilateralism, and keep the UN at the heart of international order.
On ties with Turkmenistan, Zhao said both sides are ready to deepen win-win projects and build a China-Turkmenistan community with a shared future. Founded in August 2020 by Turkmenistan, the Group of Friends of Neutrality now includes 18 states, making it a cool platform for trust-building across borders.
Stay tuned as this group reshapes how our world works – one friendly handshake at a time! 🤜🤛
