Beijing, the Chinese mainland — At WAFI 2025, China Agricultural University (CAU) introduced Shennong Large Model 3.0 🌾🤖, its latest AI tailored for smarter, easier farming. Built to cut computing demands while boosting performance by 5%, this release marks a big step for agri-tech.
According to Wang Yaojun, lead researcher at CAU, the model's architecture was totally redesigned to hit the sweet spot between being lightweight and delivering top-tier results. Translation: farmers and startups can run powerful AI on everyday hardware.
Shennong 3.0 builds on solid basics. The original 1.0 laid down core agri-knowledge and Q&A tools, while 2.0 added multimodal features (think images + text) and expanded real-world use cases across the sector.
But wait, there's more! 🚜 CAU also rolled out an agent platform with 36 specialized bots across six categories—from smart breeding to crop protection. These agents can hook up to machinery and sensors for on-the-ground, automated support.
Pilot programs are already live around Beijing, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Heilongjiang Province, offering tailored plant-care tips and step-by-step guidance during cultivation. It’s like having a digital farm coach in your pocket.
Trained since 2023 on a vast dataset—over 10 million agri-knowledge graphs, 50 million production records, and 20,000 monographs—Shennong 3.0 lays the groundwork for the future of high-efficiency, tech-driven farming 🌟.
