Ready for a history-and-art mashup? Xi’an, the capital of northwest Shaanxi Province in the Chinese mainland, and Gyeongju in South Korea have been sister cities since 1994. Fast forward 30 years, and these two ancient hubs are taking their collab to the next level.
This August, art lovers got a treat in Gyeongju: an exhibition featuring over 270 works of calligraphy, fine arts and photography by talents from both cities. From brushstroke masterpieces to striking photo essays, the show celebrates centuries of shared stories with a fresh, modern vibe 🎨📸.
It’s not just about stunning visuals. Archaeologists and heritage experts from Xi’an and Gyeongju have been in close touch, swapping insights on preserving world-class sites and artifacts. Think ancient tombs in Gyeongju and the Terracotta Army in Xi’an—these legacies prove that cultural preservation knows no borders!
All this cultural synergy sets the stage for the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, happening in Gyeongju on October 31 and November 1. As the 21 APEC economies prepare to converge, Xi’an and Gyeongju are showing how art, history and people-to-people exchanges can boost regional unity 🌏🤝.
