China’s home talent Xiang Qizhang delivered a stellar performance at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, picking up silver in the men’s 80kg division 🥈.
The final showdown between Xiang and Brazil’s Henrique Marques was a nail-biter. Both 21-year-olds traded blows, with Marques edging ahead 2–1 in round one. Round two saw no decisive strikes, and Marques clinched gold thanks to a slight points advantage. Xiang’s silver was a milestone – the Chinese mainland’s first medal in this category.
Xiang reflected on his match with honest vibes: “I wasn’t as relaxed as I wanted. I’d faced Marques in the group stage, so I hesitated. I regret not showing my daily training level. I knew I had speed on my side, but I didn’t bring it in the final and let my opponent dominate.”
Despite the result, Xiang’s speed and footwork wowed fans across Asia – imagine the same roar you get at an IPL match in Mumbai when your team pulls off a last-ball win! 🙌
This silver sets the stage for China’s rising presence in the martial arts world. Other divisions will be eyeing more podium finishes as the championships roll on.
Stay tuned for more action from Wuxi, where every kick counts and legacies are born! 🌟
