Reviving a Ming Dynasty Marvel 🛳️
Xu Lu, a modern-day craftsman, has spent over a decade sailing across the Taiwan Strait in ships he built himself from scratch. But these aren’t your average vessels—they’re faithful replicas of the legendary treasure ships commanded by Ming Dynasty admiral Zheng He.
A Dragon Boat Festival Project 🐲🔨
In 2025, right before the Dragon Boat Festival, Xu Lu returned to Yuegang Port to kick off his latest build: a new treasure ship replica that mirrors the grand designs of the 15th century. The Dragon Boat Festival—celebrated across South and Southeast Asia for its excitement, tradition, and sticky rice dumplings—provides the perfect backdrop for this ambitious restoration of maritime heritage.
Why It Matters
This project isn’t just about wood and nails. It’s a bridge between past and present, reminding us of the region’s rich seafaring history and cultural exchanges. For tech lovers, think of it as an IRL (in real life) “maker” movement—where traditional craftsmanship meets modern passion and storytelling.
Stay Tuned
Follow Xu Lu’s journey as he transforms Yuegang Port into a living museum. We’ll keep you posted on build milestones, launch dates, and behind-the-scenes peeks that will light up your feeds. Ready to sail back in time? ⏳🚢
