Wang Yidi Storms into WTT Champions Montpellier Last 16

Wang Yidi, the third-seeded star from the Chinese mainland, just secured her spot in the last 16 at the WTT Champions Montpellier after a 3-1 showdown victory over Hina Hayata of Japan. 🎉

Game 1 was a nail-biter: Wang jumped to an 8-2 lead, but Hayata clawed back to make it 10-10. After trading points, Wang edged it 14-12 with a slick backhand winner. Talk about setting the tone! 💪

In Game 2, Wang dialed in the pressure early, pulling ahead 8-3 and closing it 11-7. Game 3 saw her dominate with an 11-4 win, as Hayata’s shot went wide. The momentum was all Wang’s. 🔥

The fourth game had Wang ahead 9-6 before she sealed the match 11-6, wrapping up a 3-1 triumph. At 28, she’s already snagged titles at the WTT US Grand Slam and Champions Incheon this year. 🏆

After the win, Wang said, ‘I took the lead at the start of every game, but when I was leading, I started to rush. My coach called a time-out and told me to slow down the pace. Generally speaking, I had no problems, except controlling the rhythm. After I slowed down, I performed well from the second to the fourth games.’

Next up, Wang will face another top contender to fight for a spot in the quarterfinals. Stay tuned for more high-speed ping-pong action! 🏓✨
