Hey, panda enthusiasts! 🐼 China just kicked off trial operations at its brand-new giant panda base in Sichuan’s Mianyang, covering about 120 hectares. This is the fifth site in the CCRCGP network – that’s the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda – aimed at boosting breeding, research, and international collaboration.
On Tuesday, 13 pandas were relocated to the facility. Huang Zhi, head of the base’s prep team, says the pandas are a little tense in their new surroundings but overall doing well. The experts are on full alert, making sure these fluffballs settle in smoothly before the base welcomes visitors next year.
Did you know? Mianyang is home to about 22.4% of China’s wild giant pandas – 418 in total, the highest among any prefecture-level city. Since the 1980s, the CCRCGP has grown its captive panda population from just six pandas in 1983 to over 380 today. Talk about a conservation glow-up! 🌱
This move is part of China’s bigger push to protect ecosystems and biodiversity. For our social feeds and beyond, it’s proof that teamwork – paired with panda power – can make a real difference. Share your panda love and let’s keep cheering for these adorable ambassadors! 💚
