Ancient Tang Magic at Xi’an: Media Leaders Thrilled by Grand Welcome Ceremony

Ever dreamed of time travel? ⏳ Last week, global media pros stepping through Xi’an’s Yongning Gate felt just that. The historic south gate of the ancient city wall set the stage for an epic throwback to the Tang Dynasty, complete with royal rituals and vibrant costumes.

The show, titled “Dream of Chang’an – The Grand Tang Welcoming Ceremony,” brought performers in traditional Tang attire to life. Think flowing silks, intricate headpieces and a live soundtrack that echoed through the night. This immersive performance recreated the imperial welcome once reserved for envoys and dignitaries in Chang’an (modern-day Xi’an), the heart of medieval China.

“The performance was amazing. We felt like the emperor himself was here to greet us,” said Linda Bauma, advisor to the DRC’s Minister of Communication. “The costumes, the stage presence—so impressive!”
Juan Carlos Isaza, managing director of the Latin American Information Alliance, added, “It felt like I’d been transported a thousand years back. The colors, the makeup, the dresses—pure magic.”

This spectacular ceremony kicked off two major gatherings: the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism Inauguration Meeting and the 13th Global Video Media Forum (VMF). Both events—held in Xi’an, the ancient Silk Road’s starting point—aim to foster media cooperation, boost content sharing and spark joint productions among Global South members.

Launched by CCTV+ in 2011, the yearly VMF dives into the latest in video trends, from mobile storytelling hacks to interactive livestream formats. Meanwhile, the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism builds on this momentum with pro training, academic dialogue and cross-border collaborations that resonate with our digitally connected generation.

For young creators and early pros in South and Southeast Asia, these forums light the way: imagine teaming up on a vlog series that blends Bollywood flair with K-pop aesthetics, or crafting documentaries that spotlight sustainable tech in your hometown. 🌍✨ Stay tuned for more highlights as Xi’an continues to bridge ancient heritage with modern media innovation!
