15th National Games Unite Greater Bay Area Through Sport 🏇

The 15th National Games of China kicked off on November 10, 2025, making history as it unfolds across Guangdong province in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao. Young athletes and sports fans are already buzzing about the equestrian events at Shenzhen’s Guangming International Equestrian Centre. 🏇

Breaking Barriers Under One Country, Two Systems

Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, CEO of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, says this multi-region festival is a game-changer for the Greater Bay Area (GBA). “It shows Hong Kong is fully part of one nation,” he shares, highlighting how sports are tearing down red tape on work permits, cross-border logistics and lab testing.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has invested HK$450 million in Hong Kong and 50 million yuan in Guangdong province to support the Games, plus technical know-how like venue design, operations and anti-doping measures. “Coordinating visas, logistics and regulations takes us closer together,” Engelbrecht-Bresges adds.

Building a Lasting Sports Spirit

Beyond medals and ceremonies, he emphasizes sports as a training ground for life skills—discipline, focus and resilience. “A spirit of permanent improvement comes via sports,” he notes, inspiring young people to embrace challenges and never give up. 💪

Looking ahead, the club’s Conghua Racecourse in Guangzhou, run by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, has already created jobs and training for around 1,000 local residents. An international race set for 2026 will be broadcast in over 20 countries, showing how sport can drive sustainable regional growth and a shared GBA identity. 🌟

As the 15th National Games roll on, they’re more than just competitions—they’re a vibrant celebration of teamwork, community and a can-do spirit that resonates across borders.
