Wang Yi Calls for Stronger China-Germany Ties 🚀

In a bid to amp up diplomatic vibes, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Beijing today. They focused on keeping high-level talks alive, aligning development strategies, and boosting practical cooperation that benefits both nations.

Wang stressed it’s all about building trust, not widening disputes. He hopes Germany will view China’s growth as an opportunity for win-win collaboration on global challenges 🌍✨.

As a key driver of European integration, Germany can guide the EU toward a rational, pragmatic policy on China—settling differences through dialogue and avoiding the politicization of trade or the securitization of cooperation.

Highlighting their role as multilateralism champions, Wang called on both sides to strengthen solidarity and work toward a fairer, more equitable global governance system.

On the Taiwan question, he presented China’s position from historical, factual, and legal perspectives, noting the damage done by recent erroneous remarks from Japan’s current leader about the Taiwan region. He also pointed out that, unlike Germany, Japan hasn’t fully reflected on its aggression since World War Two.

Wang emphasized that the one-China principle is the political foundation of China-Germany ties—there’s no room for ambiguity. He urged Germany to firmly oppose any 'Taiwan independence' rhetoric or actions.

Why it matters: deepening China-Germany ties sets the stage for practical projects that could ripple across South and Southeast Asia’s dynamic markets.
