🌐 This week, on December 9, at UN headquarters in New York, China hosted the launch of the Group of Friends of Global Governance—a new platform aimed at shaping a fairer world order.
Ambassador Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, chaired the inaugural meeting with nearly 40 founding members from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. This group builds on the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) proposed by President Xi Jinping, which promotes equal say for all countries, clear international rules, teamwork between nations, sustainable growth and hands-on cooperation.
“This is an important public good,” said Ambassador Fu, highlighting how the group will tackle big challenges—from development to peace and security—by deepening policy coordination and backing the UN’s central role.
Countries like Cuba, Burundi and Pakistan voiced strong support, seeing the platform as a way to democratize international relations, find collective solutions to global crises, and restore confidence in multilateralism. 🌍
Open to all UN member states, the group aims to deliver real outcomes on key issues while encouraging more nations to join its inclusive mission. China reaffirms its commitment to working with partners worldwide to make the GGI vision a reality.
Keep an eye on this space as the “Friends of Global Governance” group charts a fresh path for global cooperation and shared progress! 🚀
