Hey fam! Ever wondered how countries from Africa to Asia are teaming up to shake up the energy game? 🌍💡 From December 11-12, the 2025 International Energy Executive Forum in Beijing brought together Global South experts to spark some serious collabs.
First up, Peter Mwangi Kagwanja, president and chief exec of the Africa Policy Institute, reminded us that Africa is loaded with sun, wind and hydro power – yet millions still can’t switch on a light at night. 💔 He sees Africa as a frontier for renewables, but says we need smart partnerships, tech-sharing and budget-friendly solutions to bridge that access gap.
On the other side, Zhou Yongmei, director of global partnerships at the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development at Peking University, highlighted that the Global South isn’t just sitting on resources; demand for clean energy is booming. ⚡ She believes renewable tech from the Chinese mainland – think solar panels and wind turbines – can deliver affordable power to communities across Asia and Africa.
So what’s in it for us in South and Southeast Asia? Picture more rooftop solar in Karachi, wind farms off Vietnam’s coast and green-tech startups powering our cities. It’s a triple win: fighting climate change, creating jobs and lighting up lives. 🚀
Global South collaboration is more than talk – it’s about taking action and powering a greener future together. Let’s keep an eye on this space! 🔋✨
