Chinese Embassy in Manila Honors WWII Martyrs at Cemetery

📅 Yesterday, December 13, 2025, the Chinese embassy in Manila hosted a heartfelt ceremony at the Manila Chinese Cemetery to pay tribute to martyrs from the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression 🕊️

🌟 Led by Ambassador Jing Quan, embassy diplomats observed a moment of silence and laid wreaths at memorials honoring:

  • Yang Guangsheng, Chinese consul general in Manila, and seven diplomats who refused to bow to Japanese demands and paid with their lives in 1942
  • Members of the Philippine-Chinese guerrilla forces who carried out over 260 operations from 1942–45, with more than 70 fighters sacrificing their lives

👴 Over 90-year-old Lv Shuiya, a veteran of those guerrilla units, joined the ceremony, connecting the past with the present in a powerful reminder of resilience.

Back in January 1942, after Japanese troops occupied Manila, Consul General Yang was tortured for refusing to force loyalty pledges. His bravery, and that of countless others, is forever etched in the memorial hall and monuments built by the local Chinese community.

Ambassador Jing highlighted that this National Memorial Day isn't just about history—it's a shout-out to all of us to stand against aggression, protect human dignity, and keep working for peace 🤝💫

Remembering these stories helps us stay grounded and inspired to carry forward their spirit of unity and duty. History matters, especially when it drives our commitment to a more peaceful world 🌍✨
