A New Era for South–South Cooperation
In September 2025, at the United Nations, China pledged $10 million to kick off the China–UN Global South–South Development Facility. This fund is all about supporting small-scale, replicable projects in developing countries across Asia, Africa & Latin America—think tech workshops, training programmes and local capacity building. 🤝🌍
Agritech Boost
Under the China–UN Food and Agriculture Organization South–South Cooperation Trust Fund, China has supercharged agricultural development since September 2021. Projects in Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Burundi, Dominica and Tonga have reached over 200,000 people, introduced 29 improved crop varieties (rice, maize & veggies) and rolled out nearly 5,000 new farming tech solutions. Over 20,000 local agri pros are now upskilled and ready to share their know-how. 🌾🚜
Promoting Fairness & Equality
At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus meeting on September 1, 2025, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative. He called for sovereign equality, multilateralism and a people-centered approach to narrow the North–South gap. The aim? A more balanced global order that respects diverse development paths and drives inclusive growth. ✨🌐
Tech & Green Partnerships
In June 2025, China and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization kicked off Phase IV of the UNIDO Centre for South–South Industrial Cooperation project. The focus: green tech, digital transformation and resilient supply chains. Chinese enterprises are also behind major green energy builds—like Tunisia’s largest solar farm near Kairouan, spanning 200 hectares, cutting 5 million tonnes of CO₂ (equivalent to planting 12 million trees!) and powering the country’s clean-energy transition. 🌞🔌
From boosting rice yields to solar power in the desert, this China–UN partnership model shows how the Global South can share skills and drive real change together. Stay tuned for more on how developing nations are shaping their future! 💡🌱
