On December 16, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi rang up Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty for a phone call that covered everything from deepening China–Egypt ties to urgent plans for Gaza. 🤝
Wang Yi highlighted that China and Egypt are comprehensive strategic partners and noted the rock-solid friendship between Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He called on both sides to use the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2026 as a springboard for even closer cooperation, saying it’s time to level up the China-Egypt partnership.
Looking ahead to 2026, China will host the second China-Arab States Summit. Wang Yi invited Egypt, a key Arab member, to join forces to make the summit a success, and Egypt’s FM said they’re ready to send top leaders to Beijing for this major event. 📅
On the one-China principle, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm support and stated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, underscoring mutual respect on core issues.
The conversation then shifted to the Gaza crisis, which has raged for over two years and claimed more than 70,000 Palestinian civilian lives. Both sides stressed the urgent need for:
- 🕊️ A lasting ceasefire to prevent further tragedy
- 🗣️ Palestinian self-governance in Gaza
- 🤲 Active involvement of Arab states
- 🔗 A two-state solution backed by the UN for post-conflict reconstruction
Wang Yi also mentioned President Xi’s new round of Chinese aid to ease the humanitarian crisis and support Gaza’s recovery. He praised Egypt’s efforts and pledged continued Chinese support for Egypt’s constructive role in promoting a fair and lasting peace in the region.
With young people across South and Southeast Asia watching, these high-level chats show how major powers are working together for global peace and development – and why diplomacy still matters in shaping our future. 🌏
