🕊️ On December 16, at a UN Security Council open meeting on the Israeli-Palestinian issue, Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive and durable ceasefire in Gaza.
He warned that the past two months have seen frequent breaches of the ceasefire, leading to hundreds of civilian casualties. A true ceasefire means a complete stop to all hostile actions, not just a downgrade from intense clashes to low-level skirmishes. Any reckless violation risks collapsing the fragile peace.
China is calling on all parties, especially Israel, to honor their commitments under the ceasefire agreement: 🌐 open border crossings, 🚑 lift restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza, and 🤝 work with UN agencies to deliver relief.
Fu Cong also urged Israel to halt settlement activities in the West Bank, curb settler violence, and support the Palestinian National Authority by returning collected taxes and removing economic constraints. These steps are essential to rebuild trust and stability.
Looking ahead, Fu Cong highlighted the two-state solution as the only viable path: an independent Palestine living peacefully alongside Israel. He stressed that any future settlement in Gaza must follow the principle of Palestinians governing Palestine and reject any attempt to alter Gaza’s borders or population makeup.
China reaffirms its support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and pledges to work with the international community to end the humanitarian crisis, secure a lasting ceasefire, and push for a fair, durable settlement of the Palestinian issue. 🌍✌️
