Macao SAR Celebrates 26 Years Since Return to China

Earlier today at Golden Lotus Square, Macao SAR held a vibrant flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 26th anniversary of its return to China 🇨🇳🇲🇴. The Chinese national flag and the Macao SAR flag rose together as the military band played the anthem, sparking pride across the plaza.

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai, Zheng Xinchong, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, and other senior officials attended the event, alongside community representatives.

In an interview with CMG, Legislative Council member Song Pek Kei reflected on Macao’s journey over the past 26 years. She highlighted next year's start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period—a strategic roadmap China updates every five years—and introduced Macao's own "Three-Five" plan, focusing on innovation, tourism, and cultural exchange.

"Young people are key to our future," Song said, encouraging Macao's youth to chase their dreams and contribute to national development. "Your creativity and energy will keep the spirit of One Country, Two Systems alive."

For young resident Huang Tzu Tsai, watching both flags rise was a powerful moment. "Over these 26 years, Macao has thrived thanks to the support of our motherland," he shared. 🇲🇴❤️

Whether you're coding a new app in Bengaluru or exploring street food markets in Bangkok, Macao's story is a reminder that regional growth and youth empowerment go hand in hand. With fresh opportunities on the horizon, Macao's next chapter is all about innovation, connectivity, and pride.
