China Reviews Draft Law on State-Owned Assets

Hey everyone 👋, big update from Beijing this Monday (Dec 22, 2025): the NPC Standing Committee started its first review of a draft law on state-owned assets.

The proposal spans 62 articles across seven chapters and is designed to boost efficiency: it underlines the Party's leadership in asset governance, standardizes management and oversight, and ensures lawful protection and effective use of resources 🏛️📈.

With the scale of state-owned assets growing and enterprises adopting more diverse operating models, experts say a comprehensive legal framework is long overdue to strengthen oversight and governance.

Earlier this month, at the Central Economic Work Conference on Dec 11, top officials also highlighted the need to tackle involution (wasted competition), implement reform plans for state assets and SOEs, and refine regulations to support private-sector growth.

Once passed, this law aims to lay a solid legal foundation for high-quality development of the state-owned sector, marking a key step in China's ongoing economic reform journey.
