China Backs Peace Push Between Thailand & Cambodia

From Yuxi, Yunnan, this past Sunday, Chinese FM Wang Yi said China will keep helping Thailand and Cambodia rebuild peace and offer humanitarian aid to those in need 🕊️🤝.

He met with Thailand’s FM Sihasak Phuangketkeow during the two-day talks (Dec 28-29) after the recent ceasefire agreement. As a friendly neighbor, China hopes the two sides will stay on equal footing, communicate openly, and overcome differences together 🌏.

China also pledged support for ASEAN’s observation mission to monitor the ceasefire, underlining its commitment to regional stability. Sihasak praised China’s “Asian way” mediation and said Thailand is focused on a sustainable ceasefire and genuine peace 🌱.

He added Thailand is ready to strengthen bilateral channels, rebuild mutual trust, and safeguard border tranquility. Meanwhile, Wang sent greetings from President Xi Jinping to King Maha Vajiralongkorn, celebrating 50 years of China-Thailand ties and the Thai king’s historic state visit to China 🏯🎉.

On the Taiwan front, Thailand reiterated its firm stance on the one-China principle and opposition to “Taiwan independence,” a position China greatly appreciates. Looking ahead, both sides aim to kick off another golden 50 years of friendship and deepen win-win cooperation 🤖💼.

As the meetings wrap up today in Yuxi, all eyes are on how this renewed momentum will shape the peace and prosperity of Southeast Asia. Stay tuned! 🔍
