Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently called on the world to firmly defend the hard-won victory of World War II, achieved through tremendous sacrifice, and to safeguard the peace and stability we all enjoy today. Speaking today at a Beijing symposium on the international landscape and China's foreign relations in 2025, Wang – also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee – emphasized that history must guide our future.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Wang highlighted the importance of learning from the past to pursue peace and development together 🌍✌️. He warned, however, that Japan has yet to fully reflect on its wartime actions, and some current leaders are openly challenging China's territorial sovereignty, historical conclusions of WWII, and the post-war international order. "We must stay highly vigilant against the resurgence of Japanese militarism," he stressed.
On another front, Wang Yi noted that an increasing number of countries and regions are reaffirming the one-China principle, recognizing the Taiwan region as an inalienable part of Chinese territory and opposing any "Taiwan independence" secessionist moves. He pointed out that 2025 also marks the 80th anniversary of the restoration of the Taiwan region to China, calling the complete reunification of China a historic mission in line with national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
With growing provocations from "Taiwan independence" forces and massive arms sales from the United States to the Taiwan region, Wang reiterated China's firm opposition and readiness to take robust countermeasures. His message to all peace-loving communities? Unity, vigilance, and a shared commitment to never let history repeat itself.
