World number one Sun Yingsha of China has pulled out of the upcoming World Table Tennis Champions event in Doha, Qatar, scheduled for January 7-11, 2026. Fans were shocked when she cited ongoing discomfort that also forced her to retire from a women’s singles semi-final at the WTT Finals earlier this month in Macau and miss the Chinese Table Tennis Super League Finals in Nanjing, which wrapped up last Sunday.
Despite the setbacks, Sun still secured her spot as the year-end world No.1 for the fourth straight season (no small feat)! 🏓✨
Stepping into her shoes is Doo Hoi Kem from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The final women’s singles lineup for Doha now features:
