Premier Li Qiang Visits Guangdong, Boosts Innovation in Greater Bay Area

Chinese premier Li Qiang hit the ground running in Guangdong earlier this week, touring tech hubs in Shenzhen and Foshan as he called for turbocharged innovation and deeper Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area ties 🚀.

Li urged officials to harness innovation-driven growth to kick off China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) on a strong note. “Sci-tech innovation is key to winning the future,” he said, stressing the need for robust policies, funding, and talent pipelines.

In Shenzhen, Li got a firsthand look at the Shenzhen-Hong Kong sci-tech innovation cooperation zone—an ambitious project blending the start-up hustle of the city with resources from the Hong Kong region. He highlighted how pooling research, capital, and expertise can spark breakthroughs faster.

He also pitched wider application of new tech—from AI to green energy—so they don’t just stay in labs but power real-world solutions. Upgrading transport corridors and digital networks across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will boost connectivity and collaborative projects.

Later in Foshan, Li noted rising consumer demand as living standards improve. He called for speeding up R&D of high-quality products, creating a virtuous cycle where fresh ideas meet eager buyers—something young entrepreneurs and makers can tap into 🌱.

At Foshan International Land Port, Li explored cross-border e-commerce and bonded logistics operations. He stressed “high-standard opening-up,” aiming to blend infrastructure links with common rules and lift service-sector access—opening doors for more imports, exports, and green trade.

This push for tech-driven growth and seamless trade in the GBA could spell new startup opportunities, jobs, and eco-friendly ventures for digitally savvy youth across South and Southeast Asia. Stay tuned for how these shifts shape the region’s economic future! 🌏✨
