At UN@80, Beijing-based American vlogger Robbie Swain urged young people across South Asia and Southeast Asia to join the ocean-saving mission 🌊. He reminds us that over 70% of our planet is water — and it’s way more than a selfie backdrop!
Oceans are the ultimate climate regulators, pumping oxygen into the air we breathe and hosting amazing biodiversity from coral reefs in the Andaman Sea to the mangroves of Sundarbans 🐠. They also fuel millions of livelihoods, from Sri Lanka’s tuna fishers to Vietnam’s coastal farmers.
Since the launch of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), conversations about marine protection have soared. But Robbie warns that awareness isn’t enough: "We need action — and we need it now," he says.
So what can you do? Start small: ditch single-use plastics on your trips to Phuket, support local beach cleanups in Chennai, or spread the word with your Insta stories 📱. Every effort counts when we’re talking about our shared blue planet.
As Robbie puts it, ocean conservation is a collective responsibility and the foundation of a healthy future. Let’s ride this wave together and make UN@80 a launchpad for real change 🚀.
