Hundreds of mourners gathered in Gaza’s Khan Yunis recently to lay to rest 54 Palestinians whose remains were returned by Israel under a ceasefire agreement 🙏.
Wrapped in white shrouds and draped with Palestinian flags, the bodies—many still unidentified—were carried through the streets amid heartfelt prayers and chants of solidarity.
Local official Ziad Obeid told CGTN Stringer that, "all unidentified remains in the Gaza Strip will be buried here." To help families find closure, "a specialized laboratory will be established in the coming days for the search and detection of bodies, in line with our agreement with the Red Cross," he added.
Here’s what’s happening next:
- 🧪 New lab setup: Experts will use DNA and other forensic methods to match remains with family members.
- 🤝 Red Cross support: The humanitarian agency is providing technical guidance and support.
- ❤️ Family outreach: Relatives of the missing can submit DNA samples to aid identification.
For many young people across South Asia and Southeast Asia, this moment is a reminder of the power of solidarity and the importance of human rights. While we can’t change history, we can raise our voices and stand with those seeking truth and dignity for their loved ones.
Stay tuned for updates as the lab begins its important work in the coming days.
