Meet Jimingshan: Yiwu’s ‘United Nations Community’ with 70+ Countries

Meet Jimingshan 🌏

Imagine stepping out of your door and hearing a dozen languages before you even reach your coffee spot ☕️. Welcome to Jimingshan, a vibrant neighborhood in Yiwu, Zhejiang on the Chinese mainland—famously nicknamed the “United Nations Community”. With about 1,400 residents from over 70 countries, it’s multicultural living at its finest!

Volunteer vibes 🤝
Take Awsan from Yemen. He arrived in 2015 and joined Jimingshan’s volunteer team in early 2020. These days, you’ll find him translating notices, helping with fire safety checks, and even guiding newcomers to find their next rental. “After years of volunteer service, many Chinese friends have come to know me, and I have also made many Chinese friends. It feels like being at home,” he says.

Bridging cultures 🌐
Chinese staffer Wang Xiaoxiao plays diplomat when cultural mix-ups happen. From sorting out roommate disputes to decoding local customs, she helps everyone feel understood. Plus, Jimingshan offers language classes (think English, Arabic, Korean, and more) and fun cultural events—ideal for making friends and leveling up your local know-how.

Here, national boundaries blur into memories of shared meals, festival celebrations, and late-night chats. Whether you’re a globetrotter, digital nomad, or expat student, Jimingshan proves that community isn’t just a place—it’s the people.
