China Sets 2035 Climate Goals for a Greener Future

🌏 At the recent UN Climate Summit, President Xi Jinping unveiled China's bold 2035 climate pledge: a net greenhouse gas cut of 710% from peak levels. This builds on China’s earlier aim to peak emissions by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2060.

💡 Rooted in Confucian ideas of harmony between humanity and nature, China's strategy follows an establishbeforeabolish approach: ramp up clean energy first, then phase out fossils. It's already visible in the Belt and Road Initiative, where China has paused new coal funding in favor of greener projects.

🔋 By 2035, nonfossil fuels will power over 30% of China's energy, forests will grow to 24 billion cubic meters, and electric vehicles will dominate new car sales. Plus, the national carbon market will cover highemission sectors. The goal? A lowcarbon, climateresilient society.

🚀 The Chinese premier Li Qiang highlighted China’s role in building the world’s most complete new energy chain and pledged support for a clean, beautiful, and sustainable world, echoing the idea that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.

🤝 China champions multilateralism: it backs the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, funds training for officials from over 120 countries and regions, and works with partners—even amid geopolitics—to drive down global costs for wind by 60% and solar by 80%.

🌳 Through massive afforestation programs—adding a quarter of the world’s new forests—and the world’s largest carbon market, China is setting benchmarks on biodiversity and emissions pricing. It also helped shape the KunmingMontreal Global Biodiversity Framework to halt species loss by 2030.

✨ With a philosophy of community of life for mankind and nature and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, China is charting a path that balances ambition with realism—and inviting the world to join the green ride 🌿.
