Early birds in HKSAR woke up before sunrise on Sept 3 to join a solemn yet inspiring ceremony at Hong Kong City Hall Memorial Garden 🌄🎖️.
The morning kicked off with the national anthem and a crisp flag-raising ceremony, followed by a rifle volley salute (think of it as an old-school salute using blank rounds) and a heartfelt moment of silence. Guests then laid wreaths and bowed in tribute 🙏.
Leading the event were HKSAR Acting Chief Executive Eric Chan and other senior officials. They stood alongside Wang Songmiao from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Chen Feng of the Office for Safeguarding National Security, Li Yongsheng from the Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR, and Tan Zhiwei of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison. Residents of Hong Kong, veterans, and youth reps also joined to honor the day.
Back in February 2014, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress set Sept 3 as Victory Day of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Since August that year, HKSAR has marked the occasion with an annual ceremony 🗓️.
For many young South and Southeast Asians juggling fast-paced lives, this 80th anniversary serves as a reminder of resilience and unity across borders. Whether you’re sharing stories on social media or exploring history books, let’s pause to reflect on the lessons of peace and strength for our generation ✨.
