UN Allocates $9M to Keep Gaza’s Lifeline Running 💡

After preliminary peace talks in Egypt, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have eased, but deadly shelling and gunfire are still a grim reality, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Gaza health authorities reported 21 deaths and 96 injuries on Sunday.

Moving aid in Gaza is a tough gig. OCHA says 8 lifesaving missions got the green light—like installing a solar panel in Deir al-Balah and delivering fuel, food, and medical supplies via the Kerem Shalom crossing. Sadly, 6 missions were denied and 5 got canceled. 🚧

Despite the roadblocks, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher just unlocked $9 million from the UN's emergency response fund to top up fuel reserves for hospitals, water pumps, generators, and more—keeping critical services alive. 💡

On Saturday, humanitarian partners fired up 167 makeshift kitchens that churned out 885,000 meals. But in the north, only 12 kitchens are still cooking. Aid crews are hustling to support families on the move from north to south. 🍲

Displacement camps in southern Gaza are bursting at the seams. Some families have had to set up tents near Al Amal garbage dumps—around 70 pop-up shelters in recent days. Others are braving the danger to head back north toward Gaza City, even though it has been declared a high-risk combat zone. ⚠️

Good news: the UN pipeline through Cyprus and Ashdod port is stocked with thousands of tonnes of supplies—food, medicine, fuel—just waiting for the green light. "We're cranked up and ready to move those trucks," said Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. 🚚

This $9 million infusion is a lifeline for Gaza's people, shining a light of hope amid the chaos. Stay tuned as relief teams stand by to push vital aid where it's needed most. ✌️🌍
