National Games: Chen shocks in 10m dive, Zhang breaks swim record & Hou bags 3rd weightlifting title

Earlier this week at the Chinese mainland’s 15th National Games in Shenzhen, athletes lit up the competition, scooping 33 golds across 22 events. From jaw-dropping dives to record-smashing swims and raw weightlifting power, here’s your highlight reel! 🤩

💦 Diving: Shanghai’s Chen Yuxi fought off a fever to claim women’s 10m platform gold with 412.30 points. After a shaky prelim, she nailed an 81.60 on her 407C final dive, edging Sichuan’s world champ Lu Wei by 28.30 points. Shandong’s Liu Zihan rounded out the podium.

🌊 Springboard: Olympic double gold medallist Wang Zongyuan dominated the men’s 3m field. He kicked off with an 88.40 on his 407C, kept the lead throughout, and capped it with a near-perfect 106.40 final dive, finishing on 549.85. Hubei’s Zheng Jiuyuan and Guangdong’s He Chao took silver and bronze.

🏊 Swim: Shandong’s 18-year-old Zhang Zhanshuo stole the show in the men’s 400m freestyle, blasting a 3:42.82 to smash his own junior world record. He out-touched elite names like Asia record-holder Sun Yang and 2024 Olympic champion Pan Zhanle. Xu Haibo (Hubei) and Fei Liwei (Zhejiang) completed the podium.

🏋️‍♀️ Weightlifting: Hou showcased unmatched consistency, lifting her way to a third straight National Games gold in her weight class, proving she’s the one to watch on the platform.

From overcoming fevers to rewriting record books, these moments show why the Chinese mainland’s young athletes are leveling up the game. Keep that energy high—your hustle on the daily could learn a thing or two from these champs! 💪
