Hey sports fam! 🏅 Macao SAR just wrapped up co-hosting the 15th National Games with Guangdong and Hong Kong SAR, and Chao Kuok Wai, Director of Sports Development, is stoked about the region’s performance. Macao sent its biggest-ever squad—over 600 team members, including 400+ athletes across 23 sports and nearly 200 Special Olympics reps.
This year, Macao turned up the heat on public fitness: 100 mass-sports events (a 64% jump from 2024), free gym and pool access during the Games, and pop-up venues that had vibes similar to cricket nets lighting up Mumbai or Muay Thai circuits in Bangkok. Chao says we can expect even more community workouts, temporary arenas, and facility upgrades in 2026 and beyond. 💪
Behind the scenes, Macao’s Sports Bureau backs 57 local sports associations—from martial arts and dragon boat racing to football, basketball, table tennis, and swimming. To nurture young talent, they teamed up with the Wushu Association to launch a youth martial arts school and kicked off an annual international dragon boat invitational, keeping traditions alive and kicking. 🥋🚣♂️
Looking ahead, Chao hopes to cement Macao SAR as the go-to spot for sports and wellness in the region. With fresh events, upgraded facilities, and a buzzing community, Macao is set to ride the National Games buzz into a healthy, active future for all. 🌟
