Hey speedsters and skating fans! This weekend in Gdansk, Poland, the men’s 5000m relay at the ISU Short Track World Tour final delivered heart-stopping action. Team China’s quartet—Lin Xiaojun, Sun Long, Liu Shaoang, Liu Shaolin—blazed through the quarters and semis to storm the podium with a gleaming silver 🥈.
From lap one, the race was a cat-and-mouse of leads between China, the Republic of Korea, Italy and the Netherlands. With ten laps to go, Lin darted on the inside, pushing China into second, then he and Sun executed a slick exchange to briefly overtake the Koreans. But with six laps remaining, the Republic of Korea surged back into gold position.
Drama struck in the final stretch when a tumble between Italian and Dutch skaters took down Lin. After a review, officials disqualified the Netherlands, clearing the path for Italy to grab bronze while China celebrated silver 🥈.
Lin’s two silvers this weekend—adding to his runner-up finish in the 500m—mark a major return to form. Fans of fast skates and fierce competition have plenty to cheer about as China cements its spot among the short-track elite.
Looking ahead, the World Tour wraps up next weekend in Dordrecht. Can our skaters keep the momentum going? Stay tuned for more icy thrills ❄️⛸️!
